At the halow project we support young adults 16+ with a learning disability in and around Surrey.
We are committed to developing creative opportunities and removing social barriers for our young people and currently support over 170 young people with a learning disability.
halow offers a unique blend of activities, giving our young people the chance to enjoy an active social life, make new friends, find further education and employment training through our various initiatives like Building Futures, Social Activities, A Reason To Get Up and the halow Buddy Service.
halow aims to ensure that every person with a learning disability has the same life choices and chances as any other person.
The young people we work with want the opportunity to:
• Build relationships
• Become independent and are up for a challenge
• Become part of the community
• Find meaningful employment
• Have a home of their own
Caring, fun, empathetic, respectful and trustworthy§Honesty, reliability and punctuality§Good verbal communication and written skills§Able to use own initiative§A willingness to understand equal opportunities, respect, individuality and promoting independence
We pride ourselves on our person-centred approach across our entire organisation. This is at the heart of the support that we provide but also important for our staff and volunteers. All of our team members are treated with value and respect, and we offer great flexibility for those from different backgrounds and walks of life. Our volunteering opportunities have no minimum time commitment meaning we can provide a great range of opportunities to suit different schedules and availability.
No training or experience is required, but we have lots of opportunities for our volunteers to undertake training through our dedicated in-house training and through our partner organisations.
