Car Free Day - Urban Living Research Theme
To engage the Guildford public in University research, innovation and teaching relating to the future of sustainable, healthy and prosperous urban living.
ABOUT US:

On Sunday 26th September (10:00 - 16:30) the University is taking part in Guildford Borough Council's "Car Free Day". This will involve the pedestrianisation of parts of the town centre and asking people to leave their car at home and to experience a traffic free town centre, with series of stalls, live music, street play, exhibitions and activities (www.guildford.gov.uk/CarFreeDay).

The University will have a stall at the event where we will be showcasing our research and innovation activities and engaging the public in conversation about what we do. As part of the stall we will be providing a series of 10-minute lectures (on the hour and half hour between 11:00 and 15:30) where staff and students at the University will showcase/demonstrate their research.

We need some volunteers to help us to engage passers-by, to speak with them about the University and to funnel them towards are stall (particularly in time for our mini-lectures). Volunteers would only need to spend two-hours helping out, either between 10:30 - 12:30 / 12:30 - 14:30 / 14:30 - 16:30. You would get a Surrey branded hoodie and/or t-shirt for your troubles.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

The University is committed to engaging the local community in what we do. The Car Free Day in particular offers an opportunity to showcase our research, innovation and teaching relating to how society can develop more sustainably. We need help to deliver this message.

OUR VALUES:
Innovation, Inspiration, Inclusivity
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We are looking for outgoing people who can help to promote the University and engage the local community
