Our placements abroad offer participants the chance to gain valuable work experience in the mental health, social work and education sectors. Our main focus is to promote positive mental health and reduce stigma in the communities where we work. Through facilitating innovative, interactive sessions we aim to increase service users’ confidence, positive self-regard and overall well-being.
Projects include:
• Working in a variety of clinical and communal settings with people with mental health difficulties.
• English for development projects for children and adults.
• Working with individuals with special educational needs.
All volunteers are required to undergo a series of in-country training sessions run by local NGO’s and charity workers, such as workshops on basic teaching English, working with children and people with special needs. The cost of our placements vary, please see our website for the latest prices.
Psychology students and graduates will benefit most from this placement as it comprises of teaching, working with children and those with special educational needs and also spending time in a clinical environment. You work full time during the week, but you have all weekends off to travel the beautiful countries of Sri Lanka or Bali, Indonesia.
Our goal is to promote positive mental health through education, stigma reduction and outreach. By empowering local community members to support people with mental health concerns we hope to demystify mental illness and work towards a model of prevention. Through inclusive practice and knowledge exchange we're working towards a future where positive mental health is not a privilege, but a priority for everyone.

- We are not a tour operator: we are invested in every step of your placement, from the application process to sweating it out on your way to projects.
- We don’t support “voluntourism”. We focus on making a positive impact in the local community. Our focus is on the benefit to the service users, not on a holiday experience.
- We provide training: we want to make sure you feel as prepared as you can be, so we aim to provide comprehensive training in the first week.
- We want you to live like a local and break out of your comfort zone and immerse yourself in a totally new culture. You’ll be living with a local family, eating the local food and getting a real feel of local customs.
